The UCLA Bruins College Football Team in 2014

The UCLA Bruins started the season as the 7th ranked team in college football, but they would struggle to start the season. UCLA would start the season off against three inferior teams, but each game would only be decided by one score. UCLA would manage to squeak by Virginia, Memphis and Texas to start the season. After struggling to start the season, the UCLA Bruins displayed their dominance in their first conference game against Arizona State on September 25th. Arizona State entered the game as the 15th ranked team in the country, but they were overpowered by UCLA the entire game. After an impressive 62-27 victory over Arizona State, UCLA would have their most disappointing game of the season against Utah. UCLA trailed the entire game before taking a small lead with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Utah would respond with a game winning 29 yard field goal on their last drive to win 30-28.

UCLA would follow up the tough loss with another loss against a very good Oregon Ducks team at home. UCLA had no answers for Oregon's great offense, which led the Ducks to a 42-30 victory. It took a late field goal to beat California 36-34, and it took double overtime for UCLA to beat Colorado, the worst team in the Pac-12 conference. After squeaking by two of the worst teams in the conference, UCLA would get three straight impressive wins over the 17th ranked Arizona Wildcats, Washington and the 19th ranked USC Trojans. The Bruins entered the final game of the regular season needing a victory over Stanford to get into the Pac-12 championship game. UCLA would return to their poor play and would ultimately lose 31-10. Despite the struggles, UCLA still got a chance to play 11th ranked Kansas State in the Alamo Bowl. Thanks to a 40-35 win over Kansas State, UCLA ended the season as the 10th ranked team in college football.

UCLA Bruins - The Terry Donahue Era

From 1976 to 1995 head coach Terry Donahue compiled a successful 151 - 74 - 8 record at UCLA. That gives him the most wins as a head coach in UCLA history, with his Bruins football teams winning or sharing 5 Pac-10 conference championships and winning 3 Rose Bowls (1983, 1984, 1986). From 1983 through 1986 he coached the Bruins to 4 straight New Year's Day bowl game victories. Donahue moved up from assistant coach to head coach following the departure of Dick Vermeil. His teams enjoyed a 2 to 1 advantage in bowl games, going 8 - 4 - 1, also winning a bowl game in 7 straight seasons.
